Meet Your Experts

Laura Bhatt, LCSW

Hi! I am Laura Bhatt, LCSW, clinical social worker and psychotherapist, specializing in perinatal mental health. I received my masters in social work from Columbia University. I have a special interest in the mental load, which is the cognitive labor of the invisible, non-tangible tasks of mothering, household tending, managing relationships, work and family life. This job has fallen even harder on mothers over the past 2.5 years.

“The rhetoric of natural motherhood is implicitly child-centered. I am for the child, but I am for the mother, too. I believe their interests have been set up in an opposing zero-sum game, where a gain to the mother is assumed to be a loss to her child. But mother and child are not rivals: It is in each of their interests that the other is well and content.”
-Eliane Glaser “Motherhood: A Manifesto”
